My little Mr. Darcy has passed over the rainbow bridge
![]() | After multiple doctor visits and thousands of dollars later, my Mr. Darcy has passed over the rainbow bridge. I adopted him a little over a year ago from his original owner who had to go into hospice care. I was told by her that he unlitter box trained himself and she had him checked out in. There was no obvious signs of health issues so it was ruled behavioral. A month after I got him, I found him torticollis with nystagmus. He was treated and got better. Then a couple months ago, I noticed he was holding his head differently and was stumbling around. I ended up getting a CT scan for him to see if it was an inner ear infection and he ended up being positive for e. cuniculi. The CT also found bladder stones and sludge in his bladder and a very large abscess on his prostate. The surgery team and exotics team at CSU had never seen anything like that happen to a rabbits prostate. It broke my heart that I believed it previous owner that he was OK. I had a room full of washable pee pads and so I saw his urine every day and it looked normal every single time so the only symptom I saw was his inappropriate urination, but, again, I was told that was behavioral. I scheduled the surgery to remove the stones and sludge and to lance and drain the abscess and fill it with antibiotic beads. He made it through surgery and within the 45 minute drive home post-op he died in his carrier beside me. I am so heartbroken. It hurts to know that he may have been in pain the whole time he had been with me and I wish I had given him a healthier life. I miss him. I love him. I hope he is at peace and pain-free.
