What’s one thing you wish you knew about rabbits before you owned them…
| Here’s three out of my beautiful nine rabbits. ???? However, I really wish I knew about pet insurance and I also wish I knew about how serious snuffles can get as well as rabbit savvy vets. Pet insurance is something I wish I knew about because it meant that from the age of 15 I always had to pay outright for the vet bills and I had a rabbits who I got given as an early sweet 16th bday present. However, although she was my most favourite being in the world she had a very rare autoimmune disorder ie 1 in 10,000 so every year she cost me $4,645.90 mostly in vet bills although she ate like a queen every month, had her own medium sized room which eventually became a large room as I got a husbun for her and tons of toys etc every month as she was my little Princess. However, I was very lucky that I got lots of pocket money, had a weekend job and I always put my bday and Xmas money into savings for her so all of my money went on her and eventually her husbun before I became an adult and have had a small business and am now very highly paid in the animal industry. I know financially and care wise I got thrown in the deep end but I wish I had pet insurance but I refused to give up on her. As for snuffles, I wish I knew all about it as when one of my old rabbits going back almost five years ago had it I thought nothing too much of it and by the time I realised it was serious it was too late. Another thing I wish is that I’d have taken her to a rabbit savvy vet rather than a general practice as I think that played a part in things to. Ever since she passed I spent hundreds of dollars on big thick rabbit books all about illness, disease and cure as well as symptoms ie the bug vet books focused solely on rabbit medicine and I also made sure all of my buns were in an exotic rabbit savvy vet practice which costs more but the price is so worth it.
