Gerhard Richter, Reader. 1994, oil on linen. [2560 x 1818]
| In his work, whether figurative or abstract, Richter questions the boundaries between painting and photography. For him, painting no longer seeks to represent reality, as it once did, but to question it. Richter's figurative paintings resemble photographs of landscapes or people. However, the artist blurs the contours of the elements, smudging the distinction between painting and photography. One of his 1983 paintings was used by the band Sonic Youth for the cover of their 1988 album, Daydream Nation. (Source). [link] [comments] |
