HD600 and Arya Stealth first impressions
| tldr: amateur classical musician and beginner audiophile says Arya >hd600 for classical music, and asks for your recommendations at the end. Background Hi all, I'm 3-4 months into this hobby, I came in looking for something that could bring the sound of performing classical music in a symphony orchestra in a grand hall to my chair at home. For some reason I thought this was an easy feat. I soon realised headphones physically couldn't do this (speakers almost can). Sound HD600 are recommended as great for live music and classical music. I agree that they give a live music feel. You can really picture yourself in the audience. This isn't, however, what I imagine as classical music. Arya Stealth are bright. This is god awful for half the genres of music I listen to. That's what eq is for. Classical on the other hand is near perfect. To explain, the sound you get in most halls is quite poor and unfaithful to the true sound of an orchestra. It is somewhat dampened, dark - the opposite of clear. That's where the HD600 excel. They provide a great replication of the sound of the experience of sitting in pretty good seat in a concert hall. The imaging and staging isn't as important as everything tends to just happen in front of you. Sitting on stage, everything is massive. Clear, bright, in your face. Doesn't it just sound like I'm describing the Aryas? Imaging on them isn't perfect, but it's better than the HD600. This is the sound I was chasing. Far more immersive for movies as well. Oh and I got them for 325 USD used. (and the hd600 for $195 new). My issue I can't justify owning the hd600 anymore. They're far superior for vocals, but that's all i use them for. What are your recommendations? Should I just stick with them and see how I feel later? Should I sell them to get a proper chain for my Aryas? (I'm using a KA15 right now, which is doing great). Thanks for reading! [link] [comments] |
