Jamo S 809 vs Elac Debut 3.0 DF53 - Comparison

I've been into audio for quite a few years so I like to think I know what I'm talking about, so I'm gonna try and compare these two floorstanders. I've mainly been into headphones until recently when I bought a house so now I've been getting into speakers finally. Also for both of these floorstanders I'm using an RSL Speedwoofer 12S crossed at 80hz. Both the floorstanders I had cut at 80hz too.

My first ever floorstanding speakers were the Jamo S 809. I got them in July of 2024 used from Adorama. They were pretty beat up, but all the drivers worked just fine. I describe them as extremely bright. Way too bright in fact. I had them at -4db of treble on my receiver and they were still too bright. They were harsh, but still had decent detail. I say decent but you really had to turn them up to get any sense of it in my opinion, which only made the treble louder and harsher. I still really enjoyed my time with them, but I craved for something smoother, more natural, and even more detailed.

And boy do the Elacs deliver in all three respects. Yesterday I received my Elac Debut 3.0 DF53's open box from eBay, listed as "with box damage" but when they arrived I saw pretty much flawless boxes. I listened to them pretty much all night last night, and since I had the day off today for the New Years I had plenty of time to listen to them today. Been listening to all sorts of music from all different genres. The Elacs will tell you if it's a bad recording for sure. They sound so much better than the Jamos imo. The Elacs have beautiful vocal reproduction. Any vocal focused track sounds fantastic on these. They are extremely spacious sounding. I find myself listening to these so much quieter than the Jamos because they have so much more to offer. Every track has so much more life. The Elacs are very rich and just sound so much smoother than the Jamos. Aluminum domes with the wave guides really surprised me with their smoothness. The Elacs are punchy too! Those two bottom woofers move some air. I think I read they cross over at 500hz.

Overall, I really like the Elacs so far. They're the best speaker I've personally heard. Hopefully I can continue hearing better and better speakers! The Jamos aren't terrible by any means, but I'm glad I only spent $150 on them. I just wanted to try a floorstander to see if I would like them and I did. I liked the Jamos. But I definitely won't be going back that's for sure. The Elacs are king. ????
