You don't need to she'll out megabucks for a pleasant electrostatic setup which can hold its own against much more expensive headphones. This is just an example of such a setup: an SRM-Xh which I got for free with a pair of States and modified for normal bias, a Schiit Vali 2 as preamp bought used for 80 euros, a cheap NOS DAC bought for a similar amount. Including the SR-Xmk3 not in the picture, I spent less than 250 on it.

I also have better gear (an SRM-T1, L500, and a lot of other stuff) but this is a really nice and compact combo.
