Best Chablis I’ve Ever Had: 2018 Raveneau “Foret” 1er Cru

Paired with halibut, we opened this beautiful 2018 Domaine François Raveneau “Foret”. This is hands down the best Chablis I’ve ever had.

First, I am a white burgundy fan like whoa. I’ve never met a Montrachet I didn’t like! I love the citrus nose and flavors with a hint of floral and smooth roundness of old oak influence.

But the minerality of traditional Chablis has never really been my jam.

That’s why this wine is so special. On the nose, it reminds me of a Montrachet: crisp lemon, green apple, brioche but with a hint of that classic wet rock mineral nose you’d expect from a Chablis.

But the palate omg. Creamy but not buttery. Balanced and bold but not overwhelming. Long finishes. Just the right amount of mineral influence.

The 2018 vintage was excellent for Burgundy in general. It did produce some atypical wines in Chablis with bigger fruit than your stereotypical wine from that region. Maybe that’s why I love it so much ????

Purchased via a private broker for $375 and I already emailed him asking to buy a case. Happy Monday!
