Another day, another Breton

This is the ‘21 Chiroubles Cuvée Lea, named after Guy Breton’s granddaughter. Breton dislikes tannins (his words) so tends to use very cold maceration, which extracts less tannins (and also less color). His wines are typically unfined and unfiltered.

The wine has explosive acidity with high-toned red fruit, raspberries and a bit of tart red cherry. There’s a bit of greenness bordering on being slightly peppery on the finish. It’s a good wine, but I quite liked the 2020 more, which had a bit more complexity and better harmony between the acid and fruit.

I think I picked this up for around $32/750ml. 12% abv.
