Thanksgiving Day selections
| Had a bunch of stuff in the wine fridge that I thought "now or never" people surprisingly really enjoyed the champagne selection so ended up pulling out the 2015 Pol Roger as a last minute addition. In order of opening: NV Champagne Pierre Paillard "Les Terres Roses" Grand Cru Extra Brut Rose 2018 Champagne Pierre Paillard Verzenay Grand Cru Extra Brut Champagne 2018 Champagne Pierre Paillard "Les Maillerette" Blanc de Noirs Bouzy Grand Cru Extra Brut 2000 Nicolas Rossignol Aloxe-Corton Rouge 2017 Pouilly-Vinzelles Joseph Drouhin 2015 Pol Roger The rose I've had before and I love, it pairs nicely with most anything and once open for a bit settles down into a very nice pre dinner drink. Then had a nice comparison between I believe two different plots of the Pierre Paillard? Still discovering champagne so if anyone knows the exact differences between these please let me know. The Les Maillerette was the crowd favorite by far, for me personally it was smoother and had a much nicer finish. We also had a 2004 burgundy from same producers to do a comparison but everyone mostly stuck to the champagne. This wine was ok once it opened up a bit but not quite as delicate as I hoped for. But not bad for $70 and fun to try an aged burgundy. I was then informed that more champagne was required and the only bottle of champagne we had was a 2015 Pol Roger that we've probably passed over several thanksgiving and Christmas saying "not yet" well today was the day. One of my personal favorite champagnes in general the 2015 was perfect to end out the afternoon and had 2 non champagne drinkers actually have a glass after trying a taste. This bottle was gone in a matter of minutes as nearly everyone wanted more champagne All in all a good day! Happy Thanksgiving ???? [link] [comments] |
