1989 Rayas and 1999 DRC Richebourg

A fun dinner.

1989 Rayas. Classic wine. Nose of red fruit, incense, spices, dried fruit, a little stank — absolutely terrific. Fully resolved and drinking well, no hard edges, good balance. Very complex wine. Fantastic.

1999 DRC Richebourg. Way too young. Very distinctive nose of blue fruit and herbal tones; so distinctive and complex. However, still so tightly wound; all the elements are there for a classic but they’re still compact and not yet well-integrated or resolved; the look-through points to a spectacular wine … probably worth revising around 2035 or so.

Good wine, good times.
