2021 Stag's Leap Artemis | Preflight Tenderloin & Napa Cab!

2021 Stag

Hungry and with time to kill before the flight, I decided to treat myself at the nearest bar. I asked for a 6oz and the glass came out 3/4 full LOL so I took full advantage. Although a fair bit was gone by the time the tenderloin came out! Usually, I'm not one for American wines, but having seen Stag's Leap here a few times, I made the leap myself!

Visually, deep, dark purple.

On the nose, plentiful blackberries and cherries. A hint of smokiness. Plenty of fruit, hell, primarily fruit considering it's youth. Quite fragrant further into the glass - a nice boiling herbal tea.

On the palate, balanced tannins, nothing too prominent. A pleasant acidity to go with the ripe fruit flavors. Full bodied and a fantastic pairing with the steak. A creamy mouthfeel full of black and red fruit on the way down. Lengthy finish. It's what I like in the few Napa Cabs I've had, a fantastic example of the region. Honestly, the combo of the meal with the wine is lingering on my mind. I know more complexity of flavor would happen with more age, but hey, I don't control the vintages at the restaurant. This feels made for youthful drinking.

Quite satisfied! Lovely wine, lovely meal, and a fantastic change of pace from my usual beer and burger preflight meal.
