| Had the great pleasure of opening this ‘86 Lafite-Rothschild tonight with turkey burgers. Simply spectacular. Decanted for 2.5 hrs. I tried it immediately on open for comparison. On the nose it was young, bright, acidic. On the palate just pure teak, cedar, forest, and no fruit flavor. I wasn’t worried! With patience, this perfect wine opened spectacularly. Still heavy wood and earthy notes on the nose but the taste is an elegant blend of raspberry, plum, caramel, cedar, and a hint of truffle. Just incredible. Tannins completely mellowed. Such a treat! Purchased from a private dealer for $950. Happy Monday! [link] [comments] |
