Opening up a 2020 Mugnier NSG Clos de la Marechale on a chill thursday evening.

Upon the first pour, I was surprised by how dark the color is, especially for Pinot. Deep purple hues with minimal rim.

First smell: after a quick swirl, an immediate plum hits my nose. Dark cherries on the nose with a hint of oakiness. There was a hint of rubber as well.

First taste: quite a sharp acidity which isn't a surprise considering this is quite a young vintage. There's a lot of spiciness in it as well, a little bit of cloves. It has rich minerality that I can't quite describe as well. There is also a greenish aspect to the wine.

After 30 mins to an hour, the tannins and acidity began to soften, although mouthfeel is still quite chewy. Began to taste blackberry compote, and the nose smells a little barnyard-ey. Finished it in 1.5 hour so could not have the chance to experience more of its progression.

Overall a good wine, and since it's my first time tasting Mugnier's bottling I am eager to try more from his line-ups.
