Domaine Georges Noëllat, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pinot Noir, 2020, 13.5% abv.

Bought as a recommendation from a wine sales rep. Drank with two others on a business trip. Popped before an italian meal.

Nose: initially mellow, but after 5 minutes I got boiled beef, stale beef ragu, some cooked meat-related aromas along with hints of boysenberries and blueberries. My compatriots also got the same aroma set throughout the dinner and we were all confused if this is how it's supposed to smell like or if all of our glassware had residual compunds.

Palate: initial and mid palate is quite mellow with a hint of grape juice, some floral decorations, but the back palate is where all the action is, very salty, dare I say gamey? with a potpourri laced mix of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, licorice, and nickel of all things. Subsequent sips, especially at later times showcase an intensely salty wine with hints of iron popping up on a more diverse set of macerated cherries and strawberries. Interestingly those cooked meat-related elements (herbal) didn't show up on the palate. Very strange for me as well as my compatriots.

Finish: short, salty but not dry, hints of graphite accompanying the iron and nickel I got earlier on the palate, grape jam.

Vernacular: the nose is closed with strange cooked meats. Palate shows intense acidity with little minerality and tannins. Finish is short, good minerality, with residual acidity close to grape jam.

Bought this for KRW₩220K, which is about USD$160, on a recommendation from a floor sales rep at Bottle Bunker in Changown, South Korea. She said there are red and dark fruits, notably strawberries, which was more than what other NSGs had on their shelf. I regret listening to these wine sales reps. Smells poorly made, tastes very salty and strange perhaps due to the saltiness overpowering the little berries that were supposedly in there by the som sale rep, and a finish that is quite potent. Not sure if the glassware was tainted, and our truffle gnocchi and steak risotto came after.

Grade: C+
