School House Vineyards 2017 Pinot Noir

School House is a fly under the radar winery that, when you call them up to make your order or get a recommendation, it's the vineyard manager who answers. Another unique aspect to School House is their focus on making wines that are dry, earthy, and being more reminiscent of old-world offerings.

This is an amazingly textbook pinot noir that’s light in body, bone dry, and carries a mushroomy forest floor earthiness that punches above the red fruit.

As to specific tasting notes, red fruit of cherries, almost tart enough to be reminiscent of cranberries are what come first. Maybe the slightest touch black fruit as blackberries. And as mentioned, almost immediately thereafter, an earthiness best described as mushrooms and forest floor punches up just above the red fruit on the palate. Oak, old leather, and a touch of pepper follow through on the waterfall of earthy flavors.

Absolutely delicious, and well worth the $80 per 750mL price tag that this carries. I have every confidence in saying that School House Vineyards produces one of the best pinot noirs I have ever had.

94/100 points. Nothing short of excellent.
