Brutally hot summer weather has us experimenting with lighter wines. Chilled beaujolais has been hitting the spot, but today I opened a Jean Foillard beaujolais-villages and was hit with a prominent barnyard funk aroma.

Since we have only tried a few beaujolais prior and never experienced this, is this considered a common trait or an exception specific to the producer?

I taste pomegranate, cherry and banana flavors to round it out. The brain works in funny ways, it brought on some nostalgia for Wonka Runts candy!
