1993 Troplong Mondot

1993 Troplong Mondot

1993 was a difficult year in Bordeaux but Merlot forward St Emilion’s have turned out to be long lasting. Troplong Mondot is a winner in this vintage.

Considered decanting - the restaurant sommelier and I both tasted it and decided an hour of air in the bottle was more than sufficient- basically pop and pour. The cork came out fairly easily with a Durant and was fully intact.

Fully mature now but by no means past prime. Surprising complexity at this age with tannins almost non-existent but fruit ( blackberry, black current) still very much present. Wine still bright - deep ruby color with a soft elegant nose. 12.5% alcohol, 85.z% Merlot, 12% Cab Sauvignon and 3% Cab Franc. Superb 32 year old, again, from a tough vintage.
