2018 E. Guigal Ex-Voto Ermitage
| Decided it was a good Sunday to crack this. Poured, drank a glass. (Took a picture.) Then decanted for 45 minutes to an hour or more and drank with my wife and a friend. This wine is absolutely singing. It’s still got some oak, I’m tasting cinnamon and clove. 5”Then there’s the main show: baked dark cherry, for days, rich with none of the tartness. Licorice and even a tick of chocolate. Early hints of tetriary flavors like mushroom or gamey meats, but honestly small enough as to be non-specific. I expect the baking spices and fruit notes to mellow and savory flavors to become more pronounced but there’s absolutely no reason you have to wait on this if you like it fresh, as I do. I’ve got some more of these, which I look forward to having over a number of years. I am an avid Côte-Rôtie drinker and this is a fun departure from my Northern Rhône comfort zone. [link] [comments] |
