First bottle from WineBid
| 2014 Demougeot Savigny-Les-Beaune Premier Cru Les Peuillets. Total cost including shipping, about $32. This was delivered only two days ago, so taking a little chance with shock from shipping, but it was all good. Opened and poured without decanting. Let it breathe for maybe 15 minutes. Medium intensity robe with just a tinge of brown. Very pleasant nose of blackcurrant, leather, and a touch of forest floor. Nice balance. Still has some softened tannin and good acidity. Seems like there is a lot of life left in this wine, but nicely aged right now. A pleasure to drink. I didn’t know what to expect from WineBid, but this is a pretty satisfying first experience, allowing me to get a wine and vintage that I would probably have a great deal of difficulty locating anywhere else for anywhere near the price I paid, even after factoring in the buyer’s premium and shipping. I bought a number of bottles of different wines over several weeks and waited until I had a full case to get the most cost-efficient shipping. The really cool thing about Premier Cru and Grand Cru Burgundies is the ability to see exactly where the grapes were grown. When we were in Bourgogne last year, we rode our bikes along the walls of this very small plot of land. Having that connection makes this wine even more special to me. [link] [comments] |
