2015 La Rioja Alta SA Seleccion Especial 904
| I'm both so early (less than 1 year in) and so late (I'm almost 70) in the study of wine. I do like Tempranillo. The first taste I poured today, at 4pm, needed time. By 5, with just the smidge from pouring at 4, it was good. By 6, it was real good. Let's just say yummy. A lovely deep red, almost garnet, color, and even the first pour, you could smell the goodness from across the kitchen. Dark cherries and plums, blackberry, some mint and bay leaves and sage (yes, I pulled these off my shelves to smell). Cinnamon, oak, vanilla. A bit smoky. Really rich. The wonderful taste just lingers forever I'm bad at floral smells, but I bought a kit to help. I think hemlock is closest. Maybe gardenia as well. I would definitely buy this again ($90 USD). I don't think it needs decanting, just a bit of pour/oxygen. But honestly I don't know much about decanting, so I've followed the dominant advice here: taste in small portions over time.
