Labor Day fun: aged Napa vintage wines
My father in law was in the hospitality business in Napa during the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. He’d often either buy bottles for himself or receive them as gifts. He had these both laid down and recently gifted them to us for “red wine vinegar” We opened them for a fun tasting. Surprisingly both had very similar, non offensive noses despite being different varietals (white zin and beaujolais) - very reminiscent of a port, lots of sweet jammy notes. No scent of vinegar at all. The white zin had an interesting mix of both blackberry notes as well as a clear clean taste of red wine vinegar. The beaujolais by contrast was much more vinegar forward - what little fruit we could taste (blackberry perhaps?) was overpowered by the vinegar flavor. They both went down the drain ???? but thought it would make for good laugh for y’all [link] [comments] |
