HOW DO YOU OPEN GATO NEGRO?!?
| Total wine noob here. I bought two bottles of a cheap wine for Thanksgiving dinner, called Gato Negro. It’s a brand that really lives up to its name, because I’ve had nothing but bad luck trying to open the freaking bottles. They appear to have twist-off caps, but those caps are secured by metal foil that has defeated my every attempt to cut through it. Steak knives, kitchen shears, even a wine corkscrew: all have been brought low by this infernal cat. I was able to serve one of the bottles on Thanksgiving by using the corkscrew to drill through the cap, thus enabling me to “drip” wine into the glass, but this was a highly imperfect and frustrating solution. The second bottle remains unopened, proudly covered with battle scars from all of my failed attempts to breach its walls. (see picture) I tried looking this up, and the only answer I could find was that I am meant to use a “wine blade”. I don’t even know what that is, and I’m certainly not going to buy a piece of specialty hardware for a $5 bottle of wine. Can anyone suggest a more reasonable solution, using common kitchen cutlery? Thank you all! [link] [comments] |
