Les Chaumees Premier Cru

Les Chaumees Premier Cru

Opened slightly chilled. Presented with a lovely blood/garnet color with a tawny rim. Initial nose was meaty, like a rare bloody steak. Other notes of mushroom, smoke and faint tobacco present. Palate of red currant, sour cherry, oak, and blackberry.

After decanting for a couple hours, the nose evolved to include flowers, light cinnamon, and Grenache-like stewed strawberry. The palate expanded to show off notes of salt and plum.

All in all, quite the delight. I’d give it 92 points. Can’t wait to see how it ages!
