A review of the Zassenhaus bread slicer from a bread novice
| My overall opinion is that it’s great, but probably not $200 great, especially if you don’t make a ton of bread. This is not a brand-affiliated post because affiliate marketing is trash. I decided to treat myself to a new toy since this color was $50 under normal price on Prime Day. I make a lot of sourdough and want to get into sandwich bread and my bread knife is old and dull, so I went for it. I’m by no means a professional bread man but I love my sourdoughs. Pros: It’s pretty! The blade is super sharp and cuts even fresh loaves super well even at a really thin setting. The guard is easy to use and I never feel unsafe. Really satisfying to use. Creates next to no crumbs. Cons: For a $200 piece of equipment, it doesn’t feel very sturdy. I was expecting a little more weight to it. The suction cups on the base are my biggest complaint - they are NOT strong. They don’t stick to the pictured countertop, I have to transfer to a different table to get it to stick. Also, the few crumbs it does create can be hard to clean from where the blade attaches to the board. Overall, because I’m a dough boy, I like it and I’ll get my money’s worth from it over time because I’ve read the blade stays sharp for a long time. But if you’re not someone who makes a ton of sliceable bread or think you won’t keep it around forever, it may not be worth it. [link] [comments] |
