My niece just turned six and is completely obsessed with roller derby. Not skating... derby. She has a helmet covered in stickers, knows what a jammer is, and has strong opinions about elbow pads. So when she said she wanted a roller skate cake for her birthday, it wasn’t a request, it was a very polite declaration of fact.

She told me, “I want yellow skates, stars, and something that looks fast.” I tried to capture that with the fondant details and the little burst of chaotic energy on top. The cake’s chocolate with cream cheese frosting, because that’s her favorite combo and, in her words, “derby girls eat cake that gives them power.”

We added “On a Roll” because she’s been practicing her jammer moves around the house and wanted her cake to match her vibe.

Pretty sure I’ve been recruited as her team baker now.
