Chicken Math Is Real

I've posted on here before under a now defunct account, but... I started with a small group of gorgeous hens, two Rhode Island Reds and two Buff Orpingtons. I got them as chicks last Spring Break. They have been an absolute delight.

Unfortunately, we lost one of our Buff Orpingtons last month. We found her dead with absolutely no signs of illness and trauma. Such a bummer, but I knew death would be a big part of having backyard chickens (still shocking because she was so young and gloriously sassy).

Alas, I got roped into ordering getting two chicks (to meet a friend's minimum order) that will arrive in August (Black Ameraucanas), and I'm really excited about them. They are gorgeous.

But I still can't shake the urge to get another Buff Orpington in the meantime.... This is the "chicken Math" I kept reading about! How did losing one chicken get replaced by 3?

Time to start building an addition to my coop. ????♥️????
