Combining two hobbies
| I’ve been blacksmithing for a few months now and just started working with leather. I thought it would be fun to make a skiving knife and try out a hammered metal look and see how it went. Took about 3 hours to forge from round stock, sand to final shape, heat treat, and sharpen. It’s hard to see, but I hammered the handle hexagonal and left it slightly unfinished to match the poorly textured blade. Flattened the back side and sharpened on 1000 grit King stone. Seems to work a charm! It is too sharp for this craft board and I gouged my kitchen table, so I’ll get a granite slab or chunk of glass to work on in the future. [link] [comments] |
