When to give up trying to break a broody hen?
| I’ve never had success trying to break my broody Orpingtons, but this time around I wanted to give it another try. My young birds are all coming into maturity and this broody betch totally upsets the happiness in the coop. I’ve been dunking her in cold water every morning and then she goes into broody jail for the day. At night she is let into the coop where she immediately goes to the nesting box. Her jail is lifted off the ground and she has her own food and water, which is now covered on top so no one can poop in it (the pic was from morning 1). I’ve been at this for 7 days with no improvement. I do not have a rooster or a need for more chicks for her to hatch, and I will never get orpingtons again! But they’re stuck with us for life. Thanks for any advice. [link] [comments] |
