My wife and I want a wood stove for heating and cooking. We currently use delivered propane that costs around $3,000 a year for heat, cooking, and the water heater. I have 9 cord of wood split and stacked and we're getting the stove this spring. Looks like a decent modern cook top stove is around $6,000. A wood stove voids our home insurance so we will drop insurance. I can harvest one or two cord a year from my land and the neighbors will let me cut all the deadwood from thier land (several hundred acres of woods).
