Crochet newbie: this is for my mental health
Two months ago I picked up my first crochet hook and did a Woobles kit. From there I ordered some yarn and got to work on this shawl. I finished it yesterday and mailed it off to a loved one in a nursing facility. I started crocheting as an outlet. My husband was recently diagnosed with a life altering degenerative condition and it completely upended us. I needed something to do during all the doctors appointments and other times just being stuck in the house. Doomscrolling wasn’t cutting it. I needed to feel like I was accomplishing something. I call it, at times, rage crochet. My yarn overs are sometimes filled with tears or anger or fear, but as long as I keep going, something comes from that. So here’s my first “real project”. I can’t wait to start my next one. I’ve been a lurker but this community has been my little oasis during the most difficult time of my life. Pattern is a simple block stitch with picot edging thanks to Hooked By Robin. [link] [comments] |
