Replacing brioche section with.... not brioche?!

Replacing brioche section with.... not brioche?!

I'm making Stephen West's Starflanket for my nephew. Its a 18th bday present that he doesn't know about. There's a brioche section (2 colour brioche) ... but I don't really want to brioche. I can (or rather, I am capable of watching a YouTube video and following the instructions, have done that for brioche before) but it's slow and I can't read brioche so i can't fix mistakes and just don't like it*. I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the section with something different - fishermen's Rib/half fishermen's Rib seems the most likely to me based purely off of finished appearance. Has anyonce replaced a brioche part of a pattern with not-brioche? Is that possible? Anyone who understands brioche and can see if swapping it out would work? I don't mind of it affects the finished outcome somewhat - it's a blanket so fit doesn't matter, and design wise I feel like I can change an element and still have the FO look cool. But I'd still like the fo to lie reasonably flat and for the stitch count to be somewhere in the right ball park ( / easily adjustable) for the next section of the design

Pic is one of the photos in the pattern booklet showing the brioche section

  • at some point I will learn. But now is not that point!
