Hi everyone, I’m a fairly intermediate knitter and I’m starting this project as an Xmas present for my mum. It’s worked from the bottom up and I have to cast on 276 stitches for a large. The pattern for the ribbing is P1K2 and while I pay attention to most of the stitches I find myself checking out and then messing up the ribbing (k1 p1 or k2 p2) and then I only find out once I’m on the next round.

I’ve tried placing stitch markers every 25 stitches to check segments of it but I still manage to mess up.

Question: was wondering if anyone had any tricks of how to keep the ribbing pattern on track while doing that first row?

If not, maybe I just need to pay more attention but it’s hard with just how big the loop is.
