How to cover a picture frame to look like an Etch-a-Sketch

I'm making a fake Etch-a-Sketch for Christmas to put Buddy's Monda Lisa in, using a cheap picture frame and some foam board to build up the thickness. How do I cover the frame to make it look like shiny plastic? I considered red glossy wrapping paper or red craft foam to wrap around it, meeting at the joints with a cut angle. I'd make the dials with painted Pepsi bottle lids. Would wrapping paper be too flimsy?
