(Another) Sea Legs

(Another) Sea Legs

I’ve seen a few others folks post this recipe on Reddit, so I tracked down Steve the Bartender’s video. Steve said that it has the potential to become a modern classic, and he's not wrong!

???????????? ???????????????? Recipe by Alejandro Olivares

  • 1 oz. (30mL) Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay whiskey
  • 1 oz. (30mL) Vida mezcal
  • ¾ oz. (22.5mL) Liber & Co orgeat
  • ¾ oz. (22.5mL) fresh lime juice
  • 2-3 dashes Bittered Sling celery bitters
  • 1 dash ango to garnish (stripe method)
  • Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Add ice and shake to chill. Double strain into a coupe and garnish with a dash of angostura.

So... with a smokey scotch and a smokey mezcal, it's tempting to write this off as "too smokey". But the combination of lime and orgeat really balances this cocktail out - it's still smokey, but the Laphroaig brings briney notes that helps connect the cocktail to its name. It's probably not for everyone, but I think it would surprise people and maybe be a gateway cocktail into mezcal and islay scotch!

Cheers everyone!
