Advent of Cocktails Day 11: Tequila Sunrise

Advent of Cocktails Day 11: Tequila Sunrise

This is the old original 1930's recipe version, as found in the Trader Vic’s bartender’s guide

Ingredients:

  • ½ lime, (juice + hull)
  • 45 ml (1.5 oz) tequila (Exotico Reposado)
  • ~3 barspoons grenadine (real grenadine, not Rose’s or Torani etc.)
  • ~2 barspoons crème de cassis
  • seltzer

Instructions:

  1. fill old fashioned glass with ice
  2. squeeze juice of half a lime into glass, drop lime shell into glass
  3. add tequila, grenadine, crème de cassis
  4. stir
  5. add seltzer to fill glass
  6. adjust grenadine and crème de cassis to taste, as needed/desired.

First time for me to make a tequila sunrise, because until now, I hadn't come across an enticing tequila sunrise recipe, (thank you Advent of Cocktails and u/robborow!).

Lovely, and delicious … surprisingly light and refreshing … relatively light on alcohol. It’s a good session drink. Love having the lime shell in glass ... it adds to both the visual presentation, as well as the flavors of this drink. Sessionable ... :-) Cheers!
