First wax carving
| Hi! I've been really interested in making my own jewelry for a long time, I wanted to wait until I finish my studies before seriously delving into it. But I couldn't help myself, I'd love to get into silversmithing but I figured that the tools I need for wax carving are easy enough to set up in my room. That being said, I did have to source a few tools from my campus' engineering department, like a divider and sand paper. I'm quite happy with the shape, but I did forget to sand down the signet face to get rid of the centre hole I used to mark the circle. I also know the carving is a little scuffed, but I had a great time slowly starting to see the shape form and I'm really excited to improve. Also seen a "hack" of sorts which said that using an eraser helps get a really nice polish on the wax. Heading to a nearby stationary shop, they had ran out of all of their normal erasers and only had novelty dinosaur ones left, to which I knew must've been fate. The T-Rex can be seen in the background and I'm pleasantly surprised with how the wax has finished. All in all I had such good fun and I'm already starting my next, eager to get some feedback in case any rookie mistakes can be seen. Also I'm curious how much this would cost if I casted it in silver, for reference I think it weighs around 0.3g grams. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
