Vodka really is the secret to getting *that* smell out of vintage bags

My new-to-me vintage Celine Macadam (via Japan via Ebay) is beautiful but it smelled so much like it had been in someone's grandma's closet for twenty years. It was unusable. I tried sunlight and charcol packets, to no avail. But what worked beautifully- the vodka trick that theatre departments and vintage clothing collectors use. Cheap vodka + a little water + some essential oil in a fine-mist spray bottle. I sprayed the cloth inside and then set it outside in the sun, repeated three times throughout the day. I cleaned the canvas with mild soap and water and leather conditioner on the leather. The canvas still smelled so I misted it with the vodka solution as well and wiped off any excess, and that did the trick!
