I made the Death & Co Cocktail Codex specs (they match the daily advent post), but with Old Forester instead of their recommended Rittenhouse. Still 100 proof, which I think helps this particular cockatil out. As a Bénédictine fan, I'm no stranger to a Monte Carlo, and no surprise, this drink is GREAT. My double old-fashioned glasses are huge - I waffled between making a 1.5x or a 2x for photo purposes, and settled on the 2x. Now I have a huge drink to conquer this afternoon... good thing I have nothing else to do today!

• 4 oz Old Forester 100 proof rye whiskey
• 1 oz Bénédictine
• 3 dashes Angostura bitters

Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double old-fashioned glass over a giant rock of ice. Express oils from a lemon peel and drop it in as garnish.

My recommendation - don't make this big a drink unless you already know you like it. But you're probably gonna like it.
