My wife and I got married when we were both broke and she picked out a simple, rope knot ring in rose gold (less than 10 karat) and had it custom made by someone on Etsy. The ring pictured is almost exactly the same style but in rose gold and was a nod to one of our favorite movies, it’s a Wonderful Life.

It’s pretty delicate and has already been repaired once and so I’ve been thinking of ways to upgrade or incorporate parts of the old ring into a new, stronger band or design that will stand the test of time. I want her to ultimately make the decision on the design, but as a Christmas gift, I was hoping to start the ball rolling on approaching some custom jewellers.

Since I know nothing about jewelry, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions about how best to approach this or if there are any places where I could possibly find good references?

I’m wondering if it’s possible to take the original knot and have it encased or incorporated into a new band somehow? The last jeweller I went to for repairs didn’t think doing something with it was possible. I haven’t been able to find much online with similar rings repurposed into something new.
