Ingredients:

1 1⁄2 fl oz Gin (The Botanist Distiller’s Strength)

1⁄2 fl oz Liquore Strega

2 dashes Vegetal de la Grande-Chartreuse

Stir all ingredients with ice. Fine strain into a chilled Nick and Nora glass. Express orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

Roughly based on the Savoy recipe for an Alaska. I subbed Strega for Yellow Chartreuse and then added a couple of dashes of the Vegetal for a little kick of Chartreuse.

The overproof gin helped to keep it from becoming too sweet while still staying within the botanical/floral nature of the cocktail. Using the Vegetal as a sort of bitters really gives a little boost of minty, bitter root and anise to complement the Strega.
