Average GUY review #8- Mellow Corn

Continuing with my corn liquor/Appalachia themed day, we have Mellow Corn. Yet another auction find that I shamefully overpaid for because I really wanted to f’ing try it and I never see it on shelves anywhere except that one time in Wisconsin that I decided to pass on it and I’ve kicked myself every since but I digress. Holy run on sentence. Anyway, let’s get to it.

Proof: 100 Age: 4 years

Nose: Sweet buttery corn and vanilla pudding? Idk, but I enjoy it.

Palate: Creamed corn and black pepper. Followed by that vanilla pudding type note I caught on the nose.

Finish: corn and vanilla fade into caramel and a hint of rye spice tickles the tongue to close things out.

Overall: To the average drinker, this is going to be an above average corn whiskey. You can certainly see where it gets it’s name. It is almost completely absent of any ethanol flavor and burn associated with corn liquors that moonshine aficionados look for. Judging it by that, it’s complex, yet delicate. It’s sweet. But you still have all of the tradition hallmarks of corn liquor. But comparative to many other bourbons and whiskeys out there, it’s lacking, middle of the road.

Rating:

Against other corn whiskey 9/10 Against all US Whiskies 6/10
