Appleton 1993 Hearts Collection [Review]
| Picked this up a few months ago from a rum sale at Astor Wines (~$320). Decided to crack it open today to celebrate the 1 year wedding anniversary. Opened it up and took a sip before letting it open for 30 minutes. After a few more sips added a few dashes of water. Nose - extreme overwhelming smell of dark sugar and sweetness, that got even more pungent as the rum opened. Taste - overwhelming ripe fruit and banana flavor mixed with dark brown sugar, that signature flavor of Appleton but turned up to 11. Finish - at 62%, you get a strong alcohol burn but mixed with a pleasant fruit finish that lasts longer than you would expect. Add a splash a water to bring that burn down just a touch. Meets the expectations of what a long aged Appleton should taste like, and despite the high price tag, feel ok keeping this on my bar as a special dram. Would recommend for those folks who love Appleton 21 and are looking for something just a bit more extreme and delicious. [link] [comments] |
