[Omega Constellation Globemaster] My first luxury wristwatch

In hindsight, I’ve always been interested in watches. I remember it was a big deal when I convinced my parents to buy me my first colorful Swatch as a kid back in the ‘80s; I got a nice leather-strapped Orvis field watch as a high school graduation gift and wore it as a daily for years; after graduating college I treated myself to a stainless steel Skagen as a “dress watch;” when my father passed away I inherited his modest but fashionable Seiko sport watch; years later I splurged on a $500 Tissot for my 10-year wedding anniversary, a sum that seemed extravagant at the time.

I’ve always secretly dreamed of owning a very nice watch — the kind that comes with a comma in the price tag. Over the years I’ve ogled Tags and Rolexes, the occasional Breitling or Cartier, wondered if maybe I would inherit a Patek from some distant relative I never knew about. The kind of watch that commands respect but doesn’t demand attention. Something I could wear with a nice suit but wouldn’t look out of place with jeans and a sweater. A watch that draws compliments from the type of people whose opinions matter, not a watch that screams, “LOOK HOW EXPENSIVE I AM!!!”

And here we are.

On a recent trip I stopped by the local Omega boutique. I drooled over everything, tried on anything that looked interesting, mulled over my decision for what seemed like a very long time and finally landed on this … the Omega Constellation Globemaster.

Simple yet elegant. Refined and classy, yet not wholly dissimilar to some everyday beaters I’ve worn over the years. Something about this watch just sings to me. The movement is phenomenal, the fit and finish is superb, the attention to detail is outstanding and the pie pan dial is just … chef’s kiss The bracelet looks great, sort of subtly classy, at home with a suit at a wedding or with a collared shirt for a nice dinner out. The blue leather strap, which I think is a touch more casual, is perfect as a GADA watch. But hey, to each their own. I think this watch looks fabulous in any setting.

TLDR: I love this watch. Some much-appreciated nods to Omega’s past while being contemporary and fashionable. The dial is clean as hell — no jumbled mess of numbers or clunky chronographs, just simple and elegant, designed for people who grew up knowing how to read clocks. It looks great on the wrist and fits true to size for someone who hates big, clunky watches. This watch belongs in the Hall of Fame with the inscription, “If you know, you know.”
