Amazing speaker score

I’ve started assembling a second set for my living room, and was bouncing between amps, but finally settled on the NAD for here.

Now, for the speakers. I am still in awe I found them.

I went to go buy a Marantz 3200 preamp, and 104 tuner, and I auditioned the tuner, but not the amp till I got home.

Anyway, while we’re there, we get talking about the fact that I’m shopping for speakers (primarily was after the new Super Dentons from Wharfdale), and he points me towards this set he just has out. He said he didn’t want to sell them, but something felt familiar. They were also locally made. (What?!)

Anyway, they’re really nicely built. Wood cabinets, and a design that is reminiscent of the BC1, LA3/6 style speakers. Same setup, and arrangement. Same dimensions too. From what I can figure out, the manufacturer was a licensed Canadian builder.

Anyway, got them for $300 (CAD) for the pair. Equivalents from the British brands are insane.

They sound terrific.

  • NAD C3050
  • Sonex P10 3 way speakers (Made in Lower Sackville NS)
  • Wiim Pro Plus (but using the NAD’s DAC)

In search of a turntable for the setup, and of course will swap between different amps at different times.

Notes:

  • need real stands. Also have these pushed back to maximize room. If I’m listening listening, I’d like to be able to pull them out on stands as needed.

  • can probably do more separation, but need to still figure out how a TV fits in this room

  • yes, they’re toed in when they’re pulled forward.
