How Earth, Mars, Venus, and the Moon Compare in Surface Elevation
| Every planet and moon has a unique surface elevation “fingerprint” (hypsograph). On Earth, it’s shaped by plate tectonics and sea level. On Venus and the Moon, elevations follow a near-normal distribution, the result of impact cratering rather than tectonic processes. Mars shows evidence of geological activity, but its hypsograph is still not fully understood. [link] [comments] |
