What’s interesting is most people don’t realise time zones are actually a political tool.

The reason Belgium, France and Spain changed time zone was due to Nazi occupation (and for Spain it was because Franco wanted to ease exchanges with nazi germany). This is actually why Spanish people “eat so late”. In reality, they don’t, they just eat and sleep following the Greenwich sunlight.

Other examples include China, who, being in the top 4 biggest country in the world, only has one time zone : the one of Beijing UCT +08:00. This would make you go from 10:30 am to 7am with one step across to Afghanistan
