Overland Jet Ski build - 4 months review

Hey guys,

So firstly thanks so much for the warm welcome and the positivity you gave my last post showing my “overland” SeaDoo set up. The internet is a funny place where seemingly any topic can get dragged in to a cat fight - so it was truly refreshing to chat with like minded folks that just appreciate cool and different sh*t!

Anyway, since I last posted I’ve taken the ‘Exxplorer Pro’ out on a number of multi-day trips (including getting stuck in an insane monsoon with my dog) and the ski has performed FLAWLESSLY.

Obviously any time you make such big and pioneering changes to a vehicle you expect to run in to some teething problems, but I have to say the SeaDoo has exceeded my expectations.

I did run in to an issue with porpoising (bouncing the nose at 28-45mph) which was caused by installing the incorrect sponsons for my ski. That was a simple fix by going back to stock (and I’m working on developing new custom ones). Then the other issue is the Linq brackets I installed on my Starlink box failed after a pretty heavy off road trail ride in my Can-Am Mav R (you can swap the Starlink on to any BRP vehicle using the Linq clips). So I’ve since got a stud kit which still allows for quick removal but it’s a little more durable.

Other than that, everything is performing great. The inflatable collar has been the biggest surprise. The utility it offers is game changing. Firstly it reduces splash by at least 60-70%. Off shore riding where is usually end up with a few waves over the bow, I was totally bone dry (vs my girlfriend on my stock Explorer getting soaked). Then the added buoyancy makes it super stable when loaded with gear. It definitely hinders tight turns at speed, but that’s not what I built this ski for - I have a 325hp RXP-X for that!

Docking is super easy and side tying to my other ski is a breeze without worrying about damaging the hull.

Yeah I could go on and on, but it’s been epic and I can’t wait to take it on bigger and better adventures.

If you’re interested in looking at any of the recent trips I’ll link a few here for you to check out.

Anyway, cheers guys! Hope everyone is keeping it shiny side up and having a great summer.
