IndieCampers Review - They ruined the start of our holidays.
![]() | Here's my honest and unfiltered review about our awful experience with IndieCampers in Palma (Mayorca) We have booked for a Van pick-up on the website for 4:30pm. We had to pay upfront in full (800 euros). And we got all possible insurances, the reviews were mostly good, so we were excited and relatively relaxed. We arrived in Palma, and even though our plane got 20 minutes late and that we had no direction on how to get to the pickup site, we arrived a bit late. But we're not too stressed as we didn't book the last possible pickup time on the site. The person was gone already. On Google, it says that the center is opened until 6pm. On the booking, there were spots at 5:30pm. But apparently the guy works until 5pm and we arrived at 5:10pm. We did not get any call, any message, anything. Then we tried to contact the "24/7 support" they advertised so well, just to find out that it's an offsite, international support where the only help you get is people asking you to wait while they do nothing. To put things in context, it was 5:10pm we didn't know where the person left and contacted support as another customer told us that the worker had just left. It's 37 degrees, there's barely any shade on front of the center and we have no water as we've rushed from the airport. The support told us that someone should be coming soon, that they'll help. We were waiting for new messages for an hour then tried support again. It went exactly the same. Someone's coming. It's 6:30pm and they finally say that the pick-up is officially closed and that no one is coming but that they'll be happy to help us with any other request. They also said that we should come at the same pick-up time the next time but they've also later said that from 2:30 to 4:30 the next day should be fine. So we're on the street, far from the city, it's 6:30 and we have no other plan. We take a taxi to the city, sweaty, dehydrated and we start looking for hotels. We've tried 6 hotels and obviously they were all full. Until it's almost 9pm and the 7th which was way overpriced had a room for us. We then managed to enjoy our stay without thinking too much about what we'll have to endure the next time by trying to visit the center again on a Sunday. Based solely on what that shady support who told us that someone's coming the day before. So it's the next day, we contact support to double check that the agency is aware of us trying to pick up the car again. But we didn't get any reply. "24/7 support". It's now 2:30pm on the clock and we're at the pickup center again. We're greeted with a grumpy worker which, despite how calm I managed to stay based on everything we've been through, keeps on telling that he has warned that same support about his schedule. He said that he has a life outside of work and that he leaves at 5pm. Didn't really care about the schedule stating 6pm online apparently. The person keeps on saying that he's alone to do cleaning, pickups and drop off. And that because of us, 2 other persons that were scheduled at this time are waiting outside. The audacity. Again, we remained very calm. The system wasn't allowing us to pickup, for some reason it didn't schedule us properly for this time. And therefore he was "stuck with us. Again, this gave him a great opportunity to keep complaining about how annoying it is that we showed up at this time. About how ducked the Indiecampers system is because he always has to be in contact with support. About how he's new at the job and he doesn't like how 'things' work. Things go on, after a long wait and a massive amount of complaints punctuated with sighs. He finally got us through the system. He continues to show us around the van. I ask questions about what he's showing and he stops me saying: "Please stop asking me questions, let me do my job. You'll ask your questions later.". Amazing, again, he's the only key to our holiday, we remained calm. Then he shows us how the shower works. And the comedy continues. The shower doesn't work. He sighs, complains about how his "boss prepared this van last night". Ridiculous. After trying to make it work by all means. He says that he only has one van left but that it's not clean and has quirks. The problem is that on this vehicle, you can't unplug the shower or it will leak. The van was also missing the awning and was very dirty overall. But hey, remember, this guy is having a really bad day. We have no other option but to accept He then he struggles to get approval by the "24/7 support" to even make the swap. At this time we really were ensure about even getting our van. The swap gets approved, we get rushed to sign all the paperwork about how "good conditions" the van is in despite it being dirty as he had no time to clean it. And when we mentioned the shower quirk in the form, he got annoyed and said that he knew. Like if the form was for him.... Finally, we are ready to start our holidays. 1 day late and a whole lot pocket emptied than the day before. We left the frustration behind and managed to have a good time. Drop off was great and "his boss" was way more comprehensive and nice. Overall, I do not recommend IndieCampers. You can't call anyone and the agencies apparently can't call you. It's literally a cocktail for disaster. Especially when they charge you for "service" and "dedicated 24/7 support". Awful experience. TLDR; Avoid this company. You can't call anyone and employees are not paid overtime, therefore if you're late and of their local agency schedule differs from what you've seen on the site or while booking, you'll be left on the street.
