Received this 2.5 gallon aquarium for my birthday - I was planning on getting a Betta but was originally going to get a 5-10 gallon tank. Since it’s a gift I can’t return it. What should I do?

My thought: get a Betta, in the meantime begin saving for a 10 gallon tank as an upgrade and then cycle it. I imagine a Betta will be better off in this than a little cup in a store. If not a Betta what else would you recommend in here or maybe what would you recommend after I upgrade?
