Beginner Pitching Mechanics Help
Was in the discord but I figure I post here as well. This is my second year playing adult rec baseball, I've always been in the outfield but wanted to challenge myself to learn pitching.
Rarely get to practice on the mound, I want to get my mechanics right so I know what to replicate in practice. If it matters, 26YO 178cm 78kg, was recovering from a right ankle injury so just now getting back into it.
Velo is maybe 55-57 mph at most but my main goal is to throw consistent strikes right now. Specific questions I had:
- I feel like I am falling off the front edge of the mound a bit, is this an issue?
- Should I have a bigger stride than I do now? Feels hard to consciously do it.
- Should I keep my upper body/chest closed longer?
- Biggest issue, after I practiced today I had some pain in the front side of the hinge between my left thigh and hips. Almost feels like my body is twisting around it when I am following through? This never happened when I throw on flat ground. Is this a common issue, and any suggestions?
Otherwise, I greatly appreciate any general feedback on how to improve my mechanics.
